Our police officers are here to protect and serve the community. Too often we learn about cops having to protect more often than they serve. I'm talking about arresting criminals and busting the bad guys.
This story is great because it is a prime example of the other main reason cops are here: to serve our communities.
I think we should have more policemen like Officer Doughman from Monroe, Ohio. This officer is from a "community-oriented" police department and are apparently lucky enough to get more opportunities to help out their citizens.
Everybody remembers when they were 6 years old like this kid. I for one hated going to school when I was in first grade. I wanted to stay home and goof off. This kid's parents had a problem similar to my parents when I was his age. These parents had enough with their child's negative attitude and called the cops to try and convince him to attend school.
It worked. Officer Doughman must have said the right things because according to the story the kid hasn't complained about going to school ever since.
I love this story because it doesn't consist of blood and guts like so many others. This is a glorious example of why we pay the police to watch over our communities. It's sad that the media focuses on the violent aspects of law enforcement so much. I hope that anyone who finds out about this story will learn that the police are here to help us--not just to arrest us.
